32 64 bit upgrade

Is it possible to upgrade from the 32-bit version of Windows XP to the 64 bit version of Windows Vista without losing everything, or must a clean install be performed?

No, upgrades from Windows XP x86 to Vista x64 are not supported. I currently have a 64 bit processor running a 32 bit version of Windows XP - can I upgrade to the 64 bit version of Windows Vista without running a clean install?
